If  you have ever considered a work at home career then there are certain things you need to consider before ‘taking the plunge’…. here’s a very broad overview of some of the considerations, questions to ask yourself before deciding if a work at home career is indeed for you… remember a work at home career could be full time, part-time, or even around your day-job.

Would you actually quit your day job to pursue a work at home career (and do you need to)?

Working for an employer  actually has some advantages. For example, you will have regular hours, a guaranteed paycheck, fringe benefits and a chance to advance your career.  In a word a certain level of stability.  Of course, these aren’t always all they’re cracked up to be, and can often become disadvantages. Perhaps that’s why so many people want to work from home and be their own boss. Here are some advantages of working at home rather than in an office environment:

1. A Work at Home Career Gives You More Time With The Family

Ask anybody with a family at home whether they consider their job or their family to be the bigger priority, and their answer will almost certainly be family. However, when you look at the amount of time they spend at work and compare with how much real family time they have, their priorities suddenly seem a bit different. One of the biggest reasons why people want to work at home is so they can spend more time with family. There is no way you can put a price on time with loved ones or seeing your kids grow up.

2  A Work at Home Career Means No Commuting

Well, there may be a commute, but it will only be one of a few yards, and will only take a few moments. That sure beats dealing with the hassles of busy traffic. And that’s not to mention the money you will save on fuel for your car, and wear and tear. In fact, if you have two cars, you may be able to get rid of one of them and save even more time, money and hassle on its upkeep. Did I mention no traffic?

3. A Work at Home Career Gives You Flexibility

Imagine being able to get up when you want, taking as many breaks as you want, and having those breaks be as long as you want. Sure, you still need to get your work done if you want to make money working from home, but you will be able to set your schedule; a schedule that works for you. Flexibility is a great reason to work at home, and something very few employers can offer.

4. A Work at Home Career Means You Can Be Your Own Boss.

Yep, nobody to answer to but yourself! This sounds great, doesn’t it? The truth is that it can also sometimes be a negative. You need to be a self-starter and know how to start and finish various tasks, all without having somebody to run to for clarification. On the other hand, you don’t have to get permission to take a vacation, don’t have to worry about being fired, and you get to set your own rules. Actually, those things alone can be pretty motivating.

5. You Don’t Necessarily Need to Quit Your day Job

Yes – I’ll say it again – you don’t neccessarily need to quit your day job to follow a successful work at home career.  Indeed, many people work at home to earn extra income at evenings or week ends with the idea that they will supplement their regular income.  This is truly a best of both worlds scenario which I would strongly urge you to consider.

6. You Can Pursue A Work at Home Career As A Housewife or Househusband
