Ways of earning extra money in the summer time

With the summer fast approaching (at least here in the UK) thoughts turn to ways you can earn extra money over the summer months. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Go offline and see what services you can offer locally – if you really put your mind to it there are lots – lawn mowing, car washing, hedge trimming and disposal, waste disposal, general garden maintenance, shed building, chicken coop building, fence painting etc etc
  2.

  3. Cash in on ‘summer living’ by setting up an online amazon or ebay store for items such as barbecues, garden furniture, lawnmowers – anything that will sell well in the summer. You can do this really easily now at Blogger.Com (a free blogging tool which has a great link into Amazon). An alternative tool is Storestacker which will pull in datafeeds from Amazon, eBay and a host of other online retailers.
  4.

  5. Start a travel blog on either a specific destination or a more general ‘travel tips’, ‘cheap air fares’ etc etc. If you don’t know how to setup a blog go here or here
  6.

  7. If you live in a coastal area think about how you could earn money from holidaymakers (checkout licencing in your area first though). How many bottles of sunscreen (or water) could you sell on a crowded beach? Or deckchair hire, or sandwich bar..
  8.

  9. If you are into digital photography get out and about with your digital camera. there are loads and loads of ways you can make money with your digital camera – from supplying webmasters with photos to supplying google maps with images.
  10.

  11. If you run a niche website think about how you could adapt it to the summer. For instance, weight loss could be geared towards looking good on the beach, likewise a self improvement site, a make money site could focus on making money for your summer holidays, a hobby site could focus on summer activities.
Some other summer activities to consider would be summer hobbies or sports such as water sports, cricket, tennis – setup a niche website, write a tips ebook and sell it.
  12.

  13. As an aside if you currently run a business it is always worth considering the impact of seasonal changes. You will likely tend to market your business differently in the summer to the winter.

Oh, and if you want to setup Christmas website say selling Christmas gifts start thinking about it now (in May or June). Set it up and promote it early and by the time Christmas comes along it will be well established. The same goes for Halloween or Easter or any other holiday period. Plan ahead and you will
be ready when it comes along.
